Terms of Service
Last updated: 17 May 2026
1. What we do
whatsinit is an independent service that researches packaged-food products sold in India and publishes ingredient breakdowns, claims analysis, and curated SafeShelf picks. We are not a regulator, a medical practitioner, or a nutritionist. Information on the site is published in good faith and for educational purposes only.
2. Not medical advice
Nothing on whatsinit is medical, dietary, or nutritional advice. Always consult a qualified health professional before making decisions that affect your health, especially if you have an allergy, a medical condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. We are not liable for any health decisions made based solely on information published here.
3. Accuracy & how we research
We do our best to be accurate. Product data is drawn from public sources (Open Food Facts, USDA, manufacturer labels), regulatory databases (FSSAI, FDA, EFSA), and peer-reviewed research (OpenAlex, PubMed). It is reviewed by humans before publication.
We don't guarantee that any specific entry is current, complete, or free of errors. Manufacturers reformulate. Labels change. If you spot something wrong, use the Report an issue link on any product or ingredient page — we'll fix it.
4. Editorial independence
whatsinit is independent. We do not accept payment to include a product on SafeShelf, soften an ingredient verdict, or remove a negative finding. This rule is non-negotiable and applies to all current and future partnerships.
5. Affiliate disclosure
Some “Buy on Amazon” links on the site are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a purchase, Amazon pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Commission has no effect on whether a product appears on whatsinit, what we say about it, or where it ranks. We may add affiliate relationships with other retailers in the future and will disclose them the same way.
6. Your account & your conduct
By signing in and using the site, you agree to:
- Provide accurate account information (we get this from your Google profile — keep it up to date there).
- Use the site for personal, non-commercial purposes.
- Not scrape, mirror, or systematically harvest content. Reasonable individual browsing is fine; automated mass collection is not.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or attack the service.
- Not submit messages or content that's unlawful, harassing, defamatory, or infringes someone else's rights.
We may suspend or close accounts that violate these rules. See our privacy policy for how to delete your account on request.
7. Content & intellectual property
Original analysis, copy, and design on whatsinit are owned by us and protected by copyright. You may share and link to pages freely. You may not republish substantial portions of original content without permission.
Product names, brand names, and logos belong to their respective owners and are used for identification purposes only — appearance on whatsinit does not imply endorsement by, or affiliation with, the brand.
8. Third-party services
The site uses Google OAuth for sign-in, AWS for hosting, PostHog for analytics, and Sentry for error monitoring. Each of these is governed by its own terms — see our privacy policy for the full list and how your data is handled.
9. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to the amount you have paid us for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim — which, for the free tier, is zero.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect when. Material changes will be notified by email. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
